The department of Health Information Services is seeking a full-time Health Information Technician, between hours of Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm at Christie Clinic at Medical Hills in Bloomington.
Duties include adding designated healthcare documents to the electronic medical record using a variety of methods; receiving and logging all requests for confidential patient information; answering departmental phone; reviewing requests, authorizations and medical records; photocopying; sorting mail and maintaining the confidentiality of patient information.
This position requires to be onsite.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operating of office equipment is also required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in an office setting and involves working with a variety of customers internal and external to the organization, including but not limited to providers, patients, visitors, clinical and other organization staff and vendors.
Requirements may include working irregular hours.
Responsibilities:
Receive, review for HIPAA compliance and scan all incoming written requests for release of confidential patient information into the electronic medical record.
Directs the request for further processing.
Sort incoming documents sent to the department and prepare for scanning.
Scan compliant requests to third party copy service vendor and assist walk-in patients with record requests.
Answer phone requests for confidential patient information and advise patients of appropriate release procedures.
Process requests through current copy service or complete as appropriate.
Review all records requested to determine the documents necessary for an appropriate response.
Answer telephone, assist callers and provide routine information in accordance with established standards, including taking messages.
Reconcile inbound reports with appropriate information.
Confidentially recycle documents.
Review documents to determine correct patient using two patient identifiers (DOB, name) and where in the electronic medical record the document is filed (document folder).
Feed document through scanner or import document into EMR from in-fax queue or network drive and complete scanning process.
Determine whether the document should be sent to worklist for review.
Ensure the scanned documents are in correct patient record and directed for review as appropriate.
