The Assistant Public Works Director assists the Public Works Director with planning, design, and modifications to Village utility infrastructure; directs operations in the absence of Director; works with vendors in developing approved plans; and interacts with public on service inquiries.
Job Responsibilities * Assists Director in the day-to-day operations of the divisions of the Public Works department; reviews modifications and alternatives for Village projects requiring engineering experience; oversees construction and maintenance of structures and facilities such as roadways, pipelines, power plants, airport, electric systems, water, sanitary, storm water, HVAC and other utility systems * Works with engineers, contractors, architects and other vendors in analysis, design, planning, coordination and approval for Village projects; works with and advises Village departments on internally executed projects; directs operations in the absence of the Director; interacts with residents and businesses within the community to provide information and assist in resolving their concerns * Develops plans and projects dealing with short and long range growth of the Village infrastructure and services; performs research and cost opinions for Village projects * Develops capital and operational budgets for the department; monitors construction projects; recommends cost effective procedures for maintenance and repair to infrastructure * Attends and participates in all required meetings, conferences and professional seminars; attends Village meetings providing information on utility operations as requested * Oversees the development of the GIS system, the library of as-built drawings of Village facilities, maintaining and keeping drawings current; may perform civil engineering work including field surveying and CAD or board drafting * Provides supervisory direction to Village employees on specific projects; provides employee counseling and career development; works with and may advise or assist other Village departments * Develops an integrated arboricultural plan, administers such plan to ensure for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of publicly owned trees and shrubs Requirements * Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local ordinances and codes as related to construction, zoning, and environmental issues * Knowledge of electrical, civil, and /or mechanical engineering * Knowledge of work performed in public utility operations * Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holiday as needed * Live within a twenty mile radius of the corporate limits of Rantoul within six months after the probationary term Qualifications Education / Experience - * Bachelor"s degree in Engineering preferred, but not required * Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education * Valid Illinois vehicle operator license * At least two years of experience in engineering preferred in a municipality Perks * Medical, Dental, Vision * Flex Sending * Long Term Disability, Voluntary Life Insurance * Retirement Plans - IMRF, 457 Plans, Retirement Health Savings Plan * AFLAC, Legal Shield * Vacation Time * Sick Time * Personal Days * 12 Paid Holidays * Forum Membership Discount * Verizon Discount * Pool Membership Discount Additional Information The salary commensurate with experience.
