*POSITION SUMMARY: *
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Under the supervision of the Youth Development Coordinator and the Director of Youth Development, the Camp Supervisor will be responsible for overall Summer Camp Site operations: tone-setting, communication, behavior management, scheduling, quality of activities, and parent communication.
The Camp Supervisor supports camp counselors, ensures the physical, emotional and social safety of campers are met, builds relationships with campers and their household members, and leads the camp team by demonstrating strength in responsibility and leadership.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * 1.

Connect with each camp counselor and maintain a positive relationship.
3.
Coach camp counselors to help them develop professionally.
4.
Communicate regularly with the camp counselors in regards to weekly/daily plans.
5.
Stay informed of camp counselor choices involving discipline to ensure that campers receive fair and appropriate treatment.
6.
Provide support to camp counselors in challenging situations, and act as a liaison between counselors and parents.
7.
Support and encourage camp counselors, providing specific examples of their actions and words, and helping staff replace undesired behavior with positive choices.
8.
Plan weekly activities for camp counselors to implement with campers.
9.
Provide regular opportunities for team bonding/building to promote team success.
10.
Work with camp counselors to create an environment in which all campers are respectful of each other and the guidelines at camp.
11.
Build relationships with campers, observing the group dynamics of each group and connect with individual campers who may need extra support.
12.
Communicate supply/material needs from counselors to the Youth Development Coordinator and/or Director of Youth Development.
13.
Discuss child’s behavior and possible solutions for success with parents and Director of Youth Development.
14.
Manage camp schedule, aware of times or activities that may involve a high degree of emotional or social risk for campers and works with the camp team to mitigate risks.
15.
Report any suspicions of child abuse following protocols established with the required guidelines of the Illinois Mandated Reporter manual.
16.
Attend and participate in all required staff meetings.
17.
Complete all required training outlined by the YMCA and state regulations.
18.
All other duties as assigned based upon departmental need.
*NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: * 1.
Ability to design and implement recreational programming.
2.
Ability to interact with children and adults of all ages.
3.
Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
4.
Proven experience in peer leadership, supervision, and staff management.
5.
Proficiency in understanding the developmental needs of youth.
6.
Demonstrated basic level knowledge and skill in designed camp program areas.
7.
Two years of higher education or school age child development experience.
8.
Two years of day camp experience or a combination of youth programming and supervisory experience.
*PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS*: 1.
Possession of Spanish language both written and spoken.
2.
CPR/AED certification (provided upon hire).
*WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * 1.
Prolonged standing, bending, walking, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
2.
Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and activities.
3.
Occasional lifting up to 50+ pounds.
4.
Use of vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
5.
Moderate to loud noise levels in the work environment.
6.
Exposure to outdoor elements.
7.
Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
