SUMMARY: The Fitness Center Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the cardio and strength areas at both facilities, as well as, the personal training, PIT, and sales programs.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Maintain fully functional, clean cardiovascular and strength equipment including regularly scheduled quality and safety checks.
Record and analyze member use of the equipment and make recommendations for improvements including advancements in technology.
Strive to support strategic initiatives and accomplish department and company goals with appropriate and intentional planning, marketing, and sales tactics.
Maintain inventory of necessary supplies for required fitness duties and responsibilities and member needs.
Plan, market, and execute fitness focused member retention events.
Research, provide recommendations, and budget for pricing strategies, program structure, and equipment needs for the personal training and fitness programs.
Gather and review program statistics monthly to determine team’s effectiveness and success.
Grow the personal training, PIT, and Pilates programs and report results by pre-determined quantifiable factors.
Recruit, screen, interview, and hire assigned staff including interns.
Build an outgoing, energetic and member focused team for each department of responsibility.
Provide direct supervision to assigned teams, including employment training, coaching, support, scheduling, evaluations and when necessary, performance corrections.
Focus on helping team members improve their skills, set goals and knowledge through day-to-day coaching.
Monitor sales goals for Membership Sales Coordinators and provide coaching as needed.
Conduct formal and informal meetings with assigned teams on a budgeted or as needed basis.
Develop, train, and monitor teams on proper facility safety, security, and emergency procedures according to the organization’s established procedures.
Review staff time records for payroll processing and keep accurate personnel records and documentation in compliance with organizations established procedures.
Always strive for excellent customer service and focus on resolutions.
Empower members to share comments and suggestions with management; remain active on MXM reading and responding to member surveys.
Serves as a member of the Association’s Management Team, working with other managers to provide excellent customer service to members, inspiration, guidance, and leadership to staff and assisting in directing the flow of the facility for a smooth and profitable operation.
Attends and actively contributes to weekly Management Team meetings.
Communicate effectively with staff and management to assure delivery of a strong program within established policies and procedures.
Participates in special events, as assigned.
Participates in strategic and operational planning.
Develop annual departmental budgets and continually monitor expenses and revenues.
Research and negotiate annual capital equipment purchases and facility improvement projects related to fitness areas.
Seek continuing education experiences to gain knowledge, improve skills, and maintain certifications.
Provide member satisfaction within the Association’s mission: “to provide social, physical, and recreational activities and services for members and their participating families.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The facilities include areas of exercise, recreation, and office settings.
You will be regularly exposed to smells of swimming pools and exercise areas and loud music in cardio areas.
Frequently works varying hours and days.
Occasionally travels around the community to companies and organizations.
Is occasionally exposed to bodily fluids or demanding physical exertion during emergency response situations; risks are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in fitness, communications, business, recreation, or related field of study required.
National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) recognized Personal Trainer certification required, to be maintained throughout employment.
Three or more successful years of management experience, with broad involvement in varied services and management functions, including experience with employee relations issues.
Experience in fitness/health club setting with a solid customer service background preferred.
2-5 years of experience in personal training and/or group fitness preferred.
Must have own transportation back and forth between facilities and throughout the community as needed during the work shift to perform assigned duties.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgment.
Intermediate computer skills required.
Must be able to use Microsoft Office programs.
Must be able to learn and use the required club software, ABC.
Current CPR/AED certification is required, to be maintained throughout employment.
