Job Summary
The TV News Director is responsible (with the Production Coordinator) for the complete operation of TV-10 News, Illinois State University's local news operation, as well as affiliate programs created to run with the daily newscasts.
This person is responsible for the supervision of 60-80 undergraduate students and the supervision of one full-time broadcast engineer.
This person is also responsible for maintaining broadcast standards and practices, equipment and facilities management and planning, program development, community and university services, community and university relations, alumni relations and career advisement and placement.
Teaching responsibilities include a basic course in broadcast news writing and reporting.
The Director also supervises advanced students in internships on campus.
There may be opportunities to teach additional courses related to news and sports and feature reporting and writing, ENG, nonlinear editing, on-camera presentation and line producing.
This person also contributes to designing curriculum and assisting in journalism program development.
The TV News Director should maintain contact with local, regional and national television entities for the purpose of job and internship placements for students.
Contact with alumni from the School of Communication and TV-10 is an integral part of this process.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package Required Qualifications 1.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field.
2.
Minimum of five years at a commercial television station as a news/sports reporter or producer or working in a commercial television station as an assignment manager, executive producer or news director.
3.
Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications 1.
Master's Degree.
2.
Experience in a television newsroom, studio and control room setting.
2.
Teaching in a university or community college, preferably in a lab or studio setting.
Work Hours Generally Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate.
