Job Summary
Illinois State University seeks a paralegal in the Office of General Counsel (OGC).
While performing under the general supervision of General Counsel, the work of this position is often self-directed, and the paralegal is a significant and trusted contributor/collaborator with the University attorneys in the OGC.
The work of this position involves the regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment, and the individual often interacts directly with clients, playing a trusted role in the diverse legal work handled by the office.
A successful candidate will possess strong critical thinking and communications skills.
They will have strong legal research, analysis, and writings skills and the ability to become well-versed over time in University policy, governing documents, open records and open meetings acts.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$65,000 - $75,000
Required Qualifications
1.
Bachelor's (or equivalent) degree
2.
Strong critical thinking, and legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
3.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse academic community.
5.
Strong initiative, time management, and follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
1.
Experience reviewing and editing contracts and other documents
2.
Experience working in higher education.
